Trino Weekly #05

Trino’s two-match winning run came to an end on Sunday as Pro Palazzolo left the Roberto Picco with a 2–1 victory in the third meeting between the two sides in less than a month.

Before kick-off, a minute’s silence was observed in memory of Piero Larotonda, a former Trino player who had passed away the previous week. Once the game began, Trino made the brighter start and created a succession of chances. Brugnera went close inside the opening minute, Mercandino was denied by Bagnis and Vergnasco twice threatened before the visitors had produced their first real opportunity.

The turning point arrived deep into first-half stoppage time, when Petrillo converted a penalty to put Pro Palazzolo ahead. Dondi doubled the lead with a header from a corner shortly after the restart, before Trino were given the chance to respond from the spot. Brugnera’s penalty, however, was saved by Bagnis. The biancoblu kept pushing, hit the crossbar in added time and finally pulled one back through Canino, but there was no time left to complete the comeback.

Speaking to Al Nutisiari after the match, Cristian Spinoglio pointed to Trino’s missed opportunities as the key factor, saying his side had played a good first half without turning their chances into goals. The coach also questioned both penalty decisions in a match ultimately decided by Pro Palazzolo’s greater efficiency in the crucial moments.

There was better news from the Under 19s, who completed their play-in campaign with exactly the result they needed. After Wednesday’s 2–2 draw at Crescentino had left qualification to be settled in the final game, Davide Fante’s side beat Diavoletti Calcio Vercelli 3–0, with a brace from Tommaso Onorato and a goal from Marco Cassetta. The victory secured Trino a place in the Regional Under-19 Championship.

Elsewhere in the youth section, the Under 18s began their regional campaign with a 3–1 home defeat to Dufour Varallo, while the Under 17s opened their season with a 0–0 draw away to La Chivasso.

The week ahead

On Saturday, 3 October at 3.00pm, the Under 19s begin their Regional Championship campaign in Group A, hosting Voluntas Suna. Qualification was the first target of the season; now a new competition begins, with Trino stepping into regional football after an encouraging play-in campaign.

At the same time, the Under 17s return home for their first match on the Tarcisio Tavano synthetic pitch, where they face Ponderano at 3.00pm.

The following morning, Sunday, 4 October at 10.30am, the Under 18s face Union Novara in their second Regional Championship fixture.

Later on Sunday, attention turns to the senior side and one of the longest away trips of the season. Trino travel to Ornavasso, with kick-off at 3.30pm, looking for a response after the derby defeat.

Ornavassese have made a slow start, collecting three points from their opening four matches. Their only win so far came at home against Union Novara, a 2–0 victory on the third weekend, before they were beaten 2–1 away to Valle Cervo San Lorenzo last Sunday.

The table may suggest a side still searching for their rhythm, but Ornavasso has rarely been an easy place to visit. For Trino, sitting on six points after four games, the long journey north brings a different kind of test after two successive weekends at the Picco: a difficult away ground and an opponent with every reason to make home advantage count.

Trino made it two wins in a row on Sunday, beating Valle Cervo San Lorenzo 1–0 at the Roberto Picco and moving on to six points after three Promozione games.

In a tight, tactical contest, one moment of quality made the difference. On 34 minutes, captain João Gabriel Brugnera collected the ball on the left, around 35 metres from goal, and sent a superb right-footed strike into the top corner. Valle Cervo offered little space and looked to break when possible, while Trino had chances to add a second after the interval, twice going close through Vergnasco. Cerruti was called into action from a dangerous Gila free-kick midway through the second half, but the biancoblu saw out the closing stages to secure another three points.

Brugnera, speaking to Al Nutisiari after the game, said he had been looking for the chance to shoot from distance and felt Trino had remained patient despite a difficult first half. He also highlighted the team’s defensive work and the progress being made by Vergnasco. His thoughts quickly turned to the next fixture: Pro Palazzolo, a side he described as well coached and dangerous, but one Trino will face with growing confidence.

For the Under 19s, the return half of the regional play-in began with a 2–2 draw against Livorno Ferraris Bianzè. The result leaves everything to play for with two matches remaining in Group 8.

The Under 11s were also in action over the weekend, finishing their tournament with four wins, one draw and just one defeat. Their victories came against Monferrato, twice, Caltignaga and Valle Elvo, alongside a 1–1 draw with Canadà Vercelli and a 2–0 defeat to Accademia Casale.

The week ahead.
It is a particularly important week for the Under 19s. Tonight at 8.30pm, Trino travel to Crescentino for a decisive meeting with Crescentinese. Three days later, on Saturday, 26 September at 3.00pm, the biancoblu complete their Group 8 play-in campaign at the Roberto Picco against Diavoletti Calcio Vercelli. Those two games will settle Trino’s hopes of progressing to the next stage of the regional competition.

Then, on Sunday, 27 September at 3.30pm, the senior side are back at the Picco for another local derby — and against a very familiar opponent.

Pro Palazzolo arrive in Trino for what will already be the third meeting between the two clubs in less than a month. The first two came in the Coppa Italia: Palazzolo won the opening leg 1–0 on 30 August before a goalless return on 10 September secured their place in the next round. Both matches were played at the Picco, the second despite Palazzolo being nominally the home side.

Now the rivalry moves to the league. Pro Palazzolo have seven points from their opening three games and arrive after an extraordinary 4–4 draw with Gattinara, recovered with three goals in the closing stages. Trino, meanwhile, have won their last two and will be looking to extend that run in a derby that has quickly become one of the early themes of the season.

Trino claimed their first league win of the season on Sunday, beating Union Novara 2–1 at San Pietro Mosezzo in a hard-fought second-round Promozione fixture. Cristian Spinoglio’s side took the lead after 17 minutes through captain João Gabriel Brugnera, who found the net from a free-kick. Union responded through Federici on the half-hour, but Trino regained the advantage shortly before the interval, with Ciraulo converting another set piece to make it 2–1. The score remained unchanged after the break, giving Trino three important points after the opening-day defeat.

It was also a memorable weekend at the Roberto Picco, where the second edition of the Risò International Cup brought together 24 Under-12 teams from Italy and across Europe. Two days of football ended with Pozzomaina taking first place, but the tournament once again went well beyond the final standings, bringing players, coaches and families together in an atmosphere shaped by friendship and fair play.

There was more good news for the Under 19s. Trino won 2–0 away to Diavoletti Calcio Vercelli at the Bozino, with Marco Cassetta scoring both goals. The result takes the biancoblu to six points and the top of Group 8 at the end of the first half of the play-in campaign.

The week ahead.
The Under 19s begin the return half of their play-in group on Saturday, 19 September, when they host Livorno Ferraris Bianzè on the Tavano synthetic pitch. The first meeting between the sides ended in a 3–1 away win for Trino, and the next three fixtures will decide who progresses to the next stage of the regional competition.

On Sunday, 20 September, the senior side returns to the Roberto Picco for the third round of the Promozione season. Valle Cervo San Lorenzo are the visitors, with kick-off at 3.30pm. After collecting their first three points at Union Novara, Trino will be looking to build on that result in front of their home crowd. Spinoglio has already made clear what he expects: another demanding afternoon.

The opening weekend of the Promozione season brought a 2–0 home defeat for LB Trino against Olimpia Sant’Agabio, although the final score hardly reflected the balance of the afternoon at the Roberto Picco.

Cristian Spinoglio’s side stayed level with one of the division’s most highly rated teams for more than an hour and had chances of their own before Cestagalli broke the deadlock in the 68th minute. With Trino pushing for an equaliser, Merkaj added the second on the counter-attack six minutes from time. It was a difficult result, but also a performance that offered encouraging signs at the start of the new campaign.

There was better news for the Under 19s, who opened their play-in campaign with an impressive 3–1 away win against Livorno Ferraris Bianzè. Troplini, Massano and Benna were on target for Trino in a match played in demanding late-summer conditions.

The week ahead

It will be a particularly busy few days across the club.

The Under 19s return to action on Wednesday, 9 September at 8.30pm, when they host Crescentinese at the Picco in their second play-in fixture.

Twenty-four hours later the senior side faces another important night under the lights. Pro Palazzolo and Trino meet at the Roberto Picco on Thursday, 10 September at 8.30pm for the second leg of their Coppa Italia tie. The visitors hold a 1–0 advantage from the first game, decided by Federico Pasquali’s early goal, leaving qualification still very much open.

Saturday brings another Under 19 fixture, with Trino travelling to Vercelli to face Diavoletti at 2.30pm in the final match of the first half of the play-in group.

The same weekend will also see the Risò International Cup return to the Picco. Twenty-four Under-12 teams will compete across Saturday and Sunday, bringing together clubs from Italy and abroad. The group stage begins at 11am on Saturday, with play resuming at 9.30am on Sunday before the knockout rounds and the finals, scheduled for 5pm.

Finally, the first team returns to league action on Sunday, 13 September at 3.30pm, travelling to San Pietro Mosezzo to face Union Novara in the second round of the Promozione season. After the opening defeat, it will be the first away test of the new campaign.

Trino Weekly #01 – Risò International Cup

The Risò International Cup returns in September for its second edition, bringing some of the most intriguing names in Italian and European youth football back to the Roberto Picco stadium in Trino.

The tournament begins on Saturday, 5 September with the regional qualifying stage. Ten teams will compete for four places in the final phase, where they will be joined by the youngsters of the LB Trino Academy, automatically qualified as hosts.

The international finals will take place on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September. The opening matches will be played on Saturday afternoon, before a full programme on Sunday leads to the final and the presentation of the trophy.

A total of 24 teams will take part, in a competition designed to bring together different footballing cultures, coaching methods and traditions.

The international contingent is headlined by Nottingham Forest, two-time European Cup winners, alongside Vitória Guimarães, Panathinaikos and Sevilla.

The Italian representation is equally strong. Liguria will be represented by Genoa, Sampdoria and Spezia, alongside Juventus, Sassuolo and Como. There will also be a strong local presence through the youth academies of Pro Vercelli, Alessandria and Casale, as well as the four sides emerging from the regional qualifiers.

After making its debut last year, the Risò International Cup returns for a second edition with a broader, more ambitious field. For two days, Trino will become a meeting place for clubs, coaches and young players shaped by different footballing backgrounds — with the pitch providing the only measure that matters.
