Trino Weekly #06

Trino returned to winning ways on Sunday with a 2–0 victory away to Ornavassese, collecting three important points from one of the longest trips of the Promozione season.

The final score did not fully reflect how demanding the afternoon proved to be. Ornavassese made life difficult for Cristian Spinoglio’s side, particularly during a hard-fought first half, but Trino found the breakthrough in the 38th minute. After a corner had been partially cleared, Brugnera delivered the ball back into the area, Canino provided the headed touch and Mercandino arrived to finish the move and put the biancoblu in front.

The hosts continued to push after the interval and Trino were forced to defend with discipline. One of Ornavassese’s best opportunities came from a corner, when Beltrami got to the ball ahead of Cerruti but sent his header wide.

The result remained in the balance until deep into stoppage time. Conti, lively after coming on, broke forward on the counter-attack, beat his opponents and was brought down inside the penalty area. Brugnera converted the resulting penalty in the 95th minute, sealing a 2–0 victory and Trino’s third win in five league matches.

The result was an immediate response to the previous weekend’s derby defeat and another reminder of Trino’s ability to compete through difficult spells before finding the decisive moments.

There was also a positive start for the Under 19s, who opened their Regional Championship campaign in Group A with a 1–0 home victory over Voluntas Suna. After earning their place through September’s play-in competition, the Juniores began the new phase of the season in the best possible way, collecting all three points in their opening fixture.

It was a much tougher weekend for the other youth sides. The Under 18s were beaten 7–0 away to Union Novara, while the Under 17s suffered an 11–0 home defeat against Ponderano. Both teams now have an immediate opportunity to respond in their next fixtures.

The week ahead

The Under 19s return to action on Saturday, 10 October at 3.00pm, travelling to face Valle Elvo in their second Group A fixture. After starting the Regional Championship with a victory, Trino will be looking to build on those opening three points.

Later on Saturday, the Under 18s are back on the Tarcisio Tavano synthetic pitch, where they host La Vischese at 5.00pm. After a difficult afternoon in Novara, the aim will be to reset and produce a response on home ground.

On Sunday, 11 October at 10.30am, the Under 17s face Strambinese. For the biancoblu, it is another opportunity to put the previous weekend behind them and take a step forward in their campaign.

The senior side also return home on Sunday, with Bulè Bellinzago visiting the Roberto Picco for the sixth round of the Promozione championship.

After two successive away and home results of very different character — the derby defeat against Pro Palazzolo followed by the hard-earned victory at Ornavasso — Trino now have the chance to build again in front of their supporters. Another demanding afternoon awaits, with Spinoglio’s side looking to turn the three points collected in Ossola into the start of another positive run.
