Trino Weekly #08
Trino produced one of their most convincing performances of the season on Sunday, winning 1–0 away to Città di Cossato and taking three valuable points from the Ezio Abate.
The afternoon could hardly have started better. In the 2nd minute, Birolo picked out João Gabriel Brugnera and the captain, from around 30 metres, sent a superb strike into the top corner beyond former Trino goalkeeper Beskorovaynyy. It was Brugnera’s fifth league goal of the season and gave the biancoblu an early lead against a Cossato side that had started the weekend three points above them.
Cossato responded by pushing higher up the pitch, but Trino defended with composure and continued to threaten whenever space opened on the counter-attack. Brugnera went close to a second before the interval, forcing an excellent save from Beskorovaynyy.
The same pattern continued after the break. The hosts searched for an equaliser, while Trino repeatedly found room to break forward. Conti had a golden opportunity to put the game beyond reach, and Brugnera threatened again on more than one occasion. At the other end, Cerruti was ready when Cossato finally created their best chance late in the game, denying Lofrano from close range.
The final whistle confirmed a deserved victory and maintained Trino’s perfect away record in the league: three games, three wins and nine points, with only one goal conceded. Birolo delivered an outstanding performance in midfield, while Canino was again impressive at the heart of the defence. Trino move on to 13 points after seven matches.
There were contrasting results for the youth sides. The Under 19s suffered their first defeat of the Regional Championship, losing 2–1 at home to Sportiva Caltignaga after opening the campaign with two wins and two clean sheets.
It was a difficult afternoon for the Under 18s, beaten 7–1 by Cameri Calcio, but there was much better news from the Under 17s, who secured their first victory of the season with an emphatic 6–1 win over Montanaro. After draws against La Chivasso and Strambinese, Saturday’s result gave the team a deserved first three-point haul.
The week ahead
The Under 19s face a long trip north on Saturday, 24 October, travelling to Domodossola to face Juventus Domo at 4.30pm. After their first defeat of the Regional Championship, Davide Fante’s side will be looking for an immediate response and a return to the form that brought six points from their opening two matches.
On Sunday, 25 October at 10.30am, the Under 17s are also away, taking on Valle Elvo. Trino travel to Biella looking to build on the confidence gained from their first win of the campaign.
Later that afternoon, the Under 18s face one of their toughest assignments so far, travelling to meet Sportiva Caltignaga at 3.00pm. Their opponents lead the group, making it a demanding test for a Trino side still searching for its first points of the season.
The senior side return to the Roberto Picco on Sunday at 2.30pm, where Oleggio Sportiva provide the opposition in the eighth round of the Promozione championship.
Trino go into the game with 13 points from seven matches and with the confidence of an excellent victory at Cossato. Three consecutive away wins have been one of the strongest features of their opening weeks; the next task is to bring that same solidity back to the Picco and build on Sunday’s performance.
