Trino Weekly #09
Trino came from behind twice to earn a 2–2 draw against Oleggio Sportiva at the Roberto Picco on Sunday, in one of the most entertaining games of the season so far.
The visitors were ahead after only four minutes, when Repossini converted a penalty awarded for a handball decision that Trino strongly disputed. Spinoglio’s side responded well and created several chances, with Brugnera, Meo Defilippi and Vergnasco all testing Tornatore before the equaliser finally arrived on the stroke of half-time.
Luca Vergnasco finished a well-worked move to make it 1–1 and end his wait for a goal.
Oleggio regained the lead in the 64th minute through Moustafa, whose shot went in off the post, but Trino needed only three minutes to respond. Once again it was Vergnasco, this time with an excellent header that gave Tornatore no chance.
Neither side settled for the draw in the closing stages, but the score remained 2–2. Vergnasco’s double gave Trino a point from a match in which they had twice found themselves behind and moved the biancoblu on to 14 points after eight rounds.
Sunday also marked the first appearance of Trino’s new away shirt, unveiled two days earlier at the Civic Library. Designed by Matteo Gaita and produced by Sportika, the predominantly white kit features light-blue details and the three castles of Trino, bringing one of the city’s most recognisable symbols directly onto the shirt.
The setting chosen for its presentation — among the historic brick structures of the former Dominican convent — underlined the link between the club and the city. The kit also carries the logo of new sponsor EuroBio, the Crescentino-based company working in the wood sector with a focus on product quality and environmental sustainability.
There were three different results for the youth sides over the weekend. The Under 19s drew 2–2 away to Juventus Domo in Domodossola, taking their total to seven points from the opening four Regional Championship matches.
The Under 17s also drew 2–2, away to Valle Elvo, following up their first victory of the season against Montanaro with another positive result. The Under 18s, meanwhile, were beaten 5–0 by Sportiva Caltignaga.
The week ahead
The Under 19s return home on Saturday, 31 October at 3.30pm, when they face Bulè Bellinzago. The visitors have nine points from their opening four matches, two more than Trino, making Saturday’s fixture an important early test in a tightly packed Group A.
Also on Saturday, the Under 17s host Virtus Vercelli at 3.00pm. Trino have taken four points from their last two games and will be looking to continue that run on home ground.
The Under 18s have no fixture this weekend and observe their scheduled rest round.
On Sunday, 1 November at 2.30pm, the senior side travel to face Dormelletto Comignago at the Stadio Comunale in Dormelletto — a fixture that returns to the calendar after an absence stretching back to the 1990s.
There is little to separate the teams going into the ninth round. Trino and Dormelletto both have 14 points, alongside Oleggio and Pro Palazzolo. Dormelletto were held to a 1–1 draw away to Valle Cervo San Lorenzo last weekend, while Trino shared four goals with Oleggio.
The home record of Sunday’s opponents is particularly impressive: four matches and four victories in Dormelletto, with eleven goals scored and only three conceded. Trino, however, travel with an equally striking record of their own. They have won all three of their league games away from the Picco.
Something, then, has to give on Sunday.
